GOVERNATLAS / PRODUCT DOSSIER

Atlan

Atlan describes connecting business systems into a graph and making metadata, lineage and business context available to teams and AI tools.

01 / CONTEXT & SCOPE

Understand the proposition.
Define the boundary.

The decision to make

Start with a business question that requires connected metadata: which asset is trusted, who owns it and what depends on it? A graph becomes useful when those relationships help someone make a decision and remain current as source systems change.

What this record does not establish

The captured description supports metadata, lineage and context relationships. It does not establish complete lineage, enforcement of access policies or accurate AI-generated business context for your sources.

Source coverage is a research boundary, not a quality score.

02 / YOUR EVALUATION

Turn interest into a useful trial.

A

A test worth running

Select a synthetic field used in a report and an AI workflow. Inspect its business definition, owner and lineage, then rename or remove an upstream field. Ask a consumer to identify the affected assets and an operator to explain how stale or failed synchronization is represented.

B

Evidence to bring back

  1. Distinguish harvested metadata, inferred relationships and human-authored definitions in the evaluation record.
  2. Show the time of the last successful source update and the owner of any gap or failed connection.

03 / DOCUMENTED EVIDENCE

Read the claim. Inspect the basis.

Each statement retains its classification and preserved source. A vendor assertion is not an independent test result.

04 / BEFORE YOU COMMIT

Better questions.
A clearer decision.

Resolve these with the provider and your own evaluation team.

01

Which source systems provide column-level lineage and how are gaps represented?

02

What deployment, retention and access-control evidence supports the intended use?

03

What underlying assurance documents are available, and which claims remain unverified?

Regulatory applicability requires a separate, current determination. Inclusion is not certification.

KEEP THE RECORD USEFUL

A dossier should stand up to scrutiny.
