GOVERNATLAS / PRODUCT DOSSIER

Helicone

Helicone documentation distinguishes an AI Gateway workflow from use of customer-managed provider keys. It describes tracking request costs, latency and errors; its competitor comparisons and absolute uptime or latency promises are not independently established by this documentation.

01 / CONTEXT & SCOPE

Understand the proposition.
Define the boundary.

The decision to make

Choose the integration and billing boundary before comparing observability features. A gateway that routes model traffic introduces a different operational dependency from a logging-only integration. Map where provider keys, request content, billing records and failure decisions reside, then decide which team owns a discrepancy or an outage at each boundary.

What this record does not establish

The preserved documentation distinguishes gateway usage from customer-managed provider keys. It does not independently substantiate absolute uptime, latency or price comparisons. Confirm the exact logging mode, payload retention, redaction behavior, routing configuration and commercial terms for the intended deployment.

02 / YOUR EVALUATION

Turn interest into a useful trial.

A

A test worth running

In an authorized sandbox, generate a successful request, a provider rejection, a timeout and a retry. Inspect the visible cost and error records and reconcile them with provider-side evidence. If routing or fallback is included, verify which attempts were billable, whether request semantics changed and how an operator can identify the model that produced the final answer.

B

Evidence to bring back

  1. A request-attempt ledger connecting retries, selected providers, billed usage and final responses without exposing secrets.
  2. An observed failure-handling record and data-flow review for the selected integration mode, including deletion and redaction checks.

03 / DOCUMENTED EVIDENCE

Read the claim. Inspect the basis.

Each statement retains its classification and preserved source. A vendor assertion is not an independent test result.

04 / BEFORE YOU COMMIT

Better questions.
A clearer decision.

Resolve these with the provider and your own evaluation team.

01

Which data passes through the gateway versus an observability-only integration, and what is retained in each mode?

02

Can a controlled failure be traced to its source, version, owner and reviewed resolution?

03

Which access, retention, export and deletion evidence applies to the proposed environment?

Regulatory applicability requires a separate, current determination. Inclusion is not certification.
