The decision to make

Choose the measurement contract before adopting a convenient metric name. Reference text, predictions and metric implementation each affect a result. The current README recommends the newer, more actively maintained LightEval for recent LLM evaluation approaches; keep Evaluate distinct rather than silently transferring that recommendation or functionality.

What this record does not establish

This is the Evaluate library, not LightEval or an enterprise release workflow. Metric availability and a standardized interface do not establish reference correctness, suitability for a task or current support guarantees.

A test worth running

Using fictional labels and predictions, specify a deterministic metric and preserve its module revision and input schema. Include a missing prediction and mismatched reference to show how invalid inputs are handled. Explain why the resulting metric does or does not answer the intended application question.
