Langtrace

Langtrace documentation distinguishes its Python/TypeScript tracing SDKs from its dashboard. It describes OpenTelemetry traces exportable to Langtrace or another observability backend, with usage, latency and response-evaluation workflows.

01 / CONTEXT & SCOPE

Understand the proposition.
Define the boundary.

The decision to make

Decide whether you need the instrumentation or the hosted analysis environment. Exporting spans to another backend may fit an existing operations stack, but that does not establish that every evaluation or prompt feature moves with them. Define the expected event sequence and destination before instrumenting an application.

What this record does not establish

OpenTelemetry format alone does not prove identical field handling, supported-language coverage or dashboard parity. Check SDK versions, content capture, retention and license scope. The documented commercial and self-hosted options require separate configuration review.

02 / YOUR EVALUATION

Turn interest into a useful trial.

A

A test worth running

In a proposed pilot, record a model call, retrieval and custom tool error. Compare the spans with an application-owned log, then export to the intended alternate backend and inspect identifiers, attributes and missing events. Disable the destination and check whether application behavior and missing telemetry are visible separately.

B

Evidence to bring back

  1. A span manifest compared across the application log and intended export destination.
  2. A versioned instrumentation and retention decision with unresolved coverage gaps.

03 / DOCUMENTED EVIDENCE

Read the claim. Inspect the basis.

Each statement retains its classification and preserved source. A vendor assertion is not an independent test result.

04 / BEFORE YOU COMMIT

Better questions.
A clearer decision.

Resolve these with the provider and your own evaluation team.

01

A span manifest compared across the application log and intended export destination. Can this be demonstrated in the selected environment?

02

A versioned instrumentation and retention decision with unresolved coverage gaps. Who owns and signs off this evidence?

03

Which version, deployment and commercial entitlement are included in the proposed configuration?

Regulatory applicability requires a separate, current determination. Inclusion is not certification.
