GOVERNATLAS / PRODUCT DOSSIER

Microsoft Purview

Microsoft presents Purview as a family of data-security, data-governance and compliance solutions, including discovery/classification and data-estate management. Its current page distinguishes Microsoft 365/Purview Suite and pay-as-you-go licensing paths.

01 / CONTEXT & SCOPE

Understand the proposition.
Define the boundary.

The decision to make

Choose the operating problem before selecting the product family. A data catalog, an employee-data protection policy and an investigation workflow need different sources, roles and licenses. Define one use case and the part of the estate it touches so a broad family demonstration does not become an assumed entitlement to every control.

What this record does not establish

The family page does not establish identical enforcement across every cloud, SaaS system or SKU. Verify exact modules, metering, roles, connector privileges and supported operations. No independent data-loss-prevention, classification accuracy or legal-compliance result is established.

02 / YOUR EVALUATION

Turn interest into a useful trial.

A

A test worth running

In a proposed sandbox, classify a synthetic dataset, locate its responsible owner and follow one access or protection decision into the actual enforcing system. Compare a permitted user with a restricted user and inspect the resulting events. Repeat with a disconnected source and check whether missing coverage remains visible.

GovernAtlas editorial proposal. We have not performed this test.

B

Evidence to bring back

  1. A dataset/classification/owner/enforcement record with a deliberate denied case.
  2. A dated SKU, metering and connector-scope matrix with missing coverage explicit.

03 / DOCUMENTED EVIDENCE

Read the claim. Inspect the basis.

Each statement retains its classification and preserved source. A vendor assertion is not an independent test result.

04 / BEFORE YOU COMMIT

Better questions.
A clearer decision.

Resolve these with the provider and your own evaluation team.

01

Can you provide a dataset/classification/owner/enforcement record with a deliberate denied case for the selected configuration?

02

A dated SKU, metering and connector-scope matrix with missing coverage explicit. Who owns and reviews this evidence?

03

Which current version, edition, integrations and operating responsibilities are included?

Regulatory applicability requires a separate, current determination. Inclusion is not certification.

KEEP THE RECORD USEFUL
