GOVERNATLAS / PRODUCT DOSSIER

Microsoft PyRIT

Microsoft documents PyRIT as an open-source Python framework for identifying risks in generative AI systems.

01 / CONTEXT & SCOPE

Understand the proposition.
Define the boundary.

The decision to make

Use the current Microsoft repository when evaluating maintainability. The former Azure repository is archived and explicitly points to the successor; do not interpret an archived mirror as abandonment of the current framework. Set an authorized target boundary, stop owner and evidence-retention plan before allowing a risk-identification tool to send requests.

What this record does not establish

The current repository establishes a risk-identification framework, not a managed runtime defense or guaranteed coverage. The archived Azure location is excluded from capability evidence; no red-team execution occurred here.

02 / YOUR EVALUATION

Turn interest into a useful trial.

A

A test worth running

In a disposable synthetic endpoint, prepare a narrow test with a harmless canary and a mock restricted action. Retain the framework version, configured target and actual response. Ask a reviewer to distinguish an interesting generated prompt from an observed policy violation and an execution failure.

GovernAtlas editorial proposal. We have not performed this test.

B

Evidence to bring back

  1. A current repository/version record and authorized target configuration.
  2. A reproducible response/action trace with reviewer rationale and unresolved results.

03 / DOCUMENTED EVIDENCE

Read the claim. Inspect the basis.

Each statement retains its classification and preserved source. A vendor assertion is not an independent test result.

04 / BEFORE YOU COMMIT

Better questions.
A clearer decision.

Resolve these with the provider and your own evaluation team.

01

Can you provide a current repository/version record and authorized target configuration for the selected configuration?

02

Can you provide a reproducible response/action trace with reviewer rationale and unresolved results for the selected configuration?

03

Which exact version, entitlements, data paths and responsible roles apply?

Regulatory applicability requires a separate, current determination. Inclusion is not certification.

KEEP THE RECORD USEFUL
