GOVERNATLAS / PRODUCT DOSSIER

Ragas

Ragas documents experiment-based evaluation of LLM applications using built-in or custom metrics.

01 / CONTEXT & SCOPE

Understand the proposition.
Define the boundary.

The decision to make

Start with the kind of failure you want a metric to reveal. Retrieval coverage, use of supplied context and answer quality are different questions. Your evaluation design should state which information each metric requires and how a result will change the team's next action.

What this record does not establish

Built-in and custom evaluation metrics do not establish universal quality or a production acceptance threshold. Judge choice, reference data and case selection remain part of your evaluation design.

Source coverage is a research boundary, not a quality score.

02 / YOUR EVALUATION

Turn interest into a useful trial.

A

A test worth running

Build controlled cases with missing context, irrelevant context and a response that ignores relevant context. Run the chosen metrics on the same cases, inspect item-level disagreements and have a reviewer explain whether each score detects the intended failure.

GovernAtlas editorial proposal. We have not performed this test.

B

Evidence to bring back

  1. Document required inputs and interpretation separately for each metric rather than combining unlike scores into one unlabeled rating.
  2. Preserve a held-out set that was not used repeatedly while tuning the application.

03 / DOCUMENTED EVIDENCE

Read the claim. Inspect the basis.

Each statement retains its classification and preserved source. A vendor assertion is not an independent test result.

04 / BEFORE YOU COMMIT

Better questions.
A clearer decision.

Resolve these with the provider and your own evaluation team.

01

Which datasets and metric assumptions make the evaluation representative of the intended task?

02

What deployment, retention and access-control evidence supports the intended use?

03

What underlying assurance documents are available, and which claims remain unverified?

Regulatory applicability requires a separate, current determination. Inclusion is not certification.

KEEP THE RECORD USEFUL

A dossier should stand up to scrutiny.
