GOVERNATLAS / PRODUCT DOSSIER

Snowflake Horizon Catalog

Snowflake presents Horizon Catalog with data discovery, governance, security and interoperability capabilities. The captured page separately marks preview and coming-soon features; those labels do not establish general availability.

01 / CONTEXT & SCOPE

Understand the proposition.
Define the boundary.

The decision to make

Separate catalog context from native access and sharing decisions. A useful evaluation should explain what a restricted role can discover, query and export, and whether an external engine follows the same approved boundary. Choose one concrete dataset instead of treating the entire Horizon feature family as a single assurance claim.

What this record does not establish

No preview feature, universal interoperability or independent masking/lineage result is asserted. Confirm the selected Snowflake edition, region, storage/engine path and feature availability. A governance label does not by itself establish enforcement on a copied dataset or external system.

02 / YOUR EVALUATION

Turn interest into a useful trial.

A

A test worth running

In a proposed sandbox, compare raw-table, masked-view and export operations for two roles. Inspect the effective grant chain and resulting event, then change a role membership and repeat. If an external catalog or engine is proposed, test that path separately and document any policy that must be recreated there.

B

Evidence to bring back

  1. A role/object/query/export record with effective grants and evidence references.
  2. An edition/region/feature-status matrix and separate external-engine test scope.

03 / DOCUMENTED EVIDENCE

Read the claim. Inspect the basis.

Each statement retains its classification and preserved source. A vendor assertion is not an independent test result.

04 / BEFORE YOU COMMIT

Better questions.
A clearer decision.

Resolve these with the provider and your own evaluation team.

01

Can you provide a role/object/query/export record with effective grants and evidence references for the selected configuration?

02

An edition/region/feature-status matrix and separate external-engine test scope. Who owns and reviews this evidence?

03

Which current version, edition, integrations and operating responsibilities are included?

Regulatory applicability requires a separate, current determination. Inclusion is not certification.

KEEP THE RECORD USEFUL
